Small business often go ahead and purchase domain which makes it difficult for them to rank even for their own name. This is due to the new domains starting with no domain authority. If you choose a name that is generic or even worse if you choose a name another company (with higher Domain Authority) has, you may end up in a situation when you struggle ranking even for your own name which is a bad place to be in.
2 – Choosing platform without taking into account SEO consideration.
Are you going to use WordPress, Shopify or Squarespace? Each platform has its own pros and cons depending on the type of site you want to have. Jumping in without consulting an expert can be a costly mistake as this is not something that can be “fixed” without spending a ton of time at a later stage.
3 – Launching website without competitive domain research.
How strong is the competition? How much traffic are they getting? What’s the minimum DA needed to reach page one in your niche ? How may linking root domains are pointing to your top three competitors in SERPS ? These are all very important things to know.
4 – Launching your website without keyword research
That’s a guaranteed fail. Your website structure and content should be based on prior keyword research. Failing to do that will almost certainly result in poor ranking. And fixing url structure at a later stage is very time consuming. That time could be better spent on dominating SERPS.
5 – Publishing thin, duplicate or AI content
Taking shortcuts when launching your website will put you at a big disadvantage. Especially for a brand new website without links and with no domain authority (which is the case for most of new sites). You will struggle to get your content indexed let alone ranked.
